Suds Surf school offers a range of activities such as surfing, bodyboarding, standup paddle boarding and a rental cottage at Sandend beach in the beautiful water of the Moray Firth located in Malt Whisky country.

Thanks for looking at our website! My name (well a school nickname) is Suds and I've been a surf fanatic since 1993. I started the first surf school on Tiree in 2004 but now I'm solely based year-round at Sandend on the Moray Firth.

I've lots of experience teaching everyone from beginners through to National team levels - the best surfers had to start at the beginning too and I try to make the learning pathway as seamless as possible. Good technique introduced at the start should help prevent blocks later on. I was self taught, and the hardest thing I find, is to correct ingrained mistakes - I had and still have plenty to undo in my own surfing, so we make sure this won't be the case for our pupils so you'll progress at a much faster rate. All of my excellent instructors teach with the same ethos: Introducing skills that don't need untaught and that can be easily built upon, water safety, reading the ocean and lineups, surf etiquette so everyone catches more waves and mainly having fun - I mean that's why we do it!

We offer surf lessons to all levels, hires and standup paddle board lessons, hire or tours. You can also hire a range of equipment including wetsuits, bodyboards, skimboards and snorkels.

Whether you're a tentative first timer, a budding intermediate, or an aspiring expert, we've got something to suit. We offer activities, lessons and hire for groups and individuals; club or school groups; stag and hen parties; or corporate groups. Please ask for a quote for bigger/community groups.
