Learn to Standup Paddle board (SUP) on flat water on a Beginner Lesson or explore the coast and wildlife of the Moray Firth at venues such as Sandend, Portsoy, Cullen, Bow Fiddle Rock on one of our SUP tours with an ASI Level 1, 2 & 3 qualified instructor.

Standup paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the world's fastest growing sports and it originated in Polynesia as a predecessor to regular surfing. It became popular with the Waikiki beach boys in Hawaii as it allowed them to watch over their surf pupils, to see waves approaching from a higher vantage point, and to keep their customers' cameras dry.

However, it is now increasingly popular as an alternative to surfing. Laird Hamilton, legendary big wave surfer and waterman, uses it for cross-training and fitness to allow him to tackle huge waves. Many Hollywood types use it to make them look fit and pretty. We can't claim to use it for either of these reasons but just find it a fun alternative to surfing! SUP improves core fitness and works almost every muscle in your body - on flat water it can be very relaxing but if after a full on workout then try it on choppy water!

SUP is accessible to almost everyone as you can take it more sedately if the above doesn't appeal. SUP boards offer a stable platform and comfortable paddling position to glide quickly over the water...once balancing is mastered! Standing up means you can see marine life down through the water. If you want to progress beyond flat water, SUP also makes catching waves easier compare to surfing and you are able to ride much smaller waves.
